The Meridian Society presents Ivan Trevino

On Tuesday, the 25th of October (2022), the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Percussion Studio and the Missouri-Illinois Musical Arts Consortium, hosted Percussionist/Composer Ivan Trevino in a clinic and concert.

Ivan Trevino presented a clinic on 5 of his own compositions for SIU Edwardsville Percussion Students, and students from the Edwardsville High School Percussion Studio (Dean Andersen, Percussion Director), at 12 noon. Later that day/evening, Mr. Trevino and Mr. Smithiger were honored in a celebration of Ivan Trevino at the University Morris Center’s FIXINS’ Room. The reception was hosted by the SIUe Meridian Society, and the SIUe Foundation. At 7:00 pm, the SIU Edwardsville Percussion Studio performed in a special Fall ensemble concert, titled, “The Music of Ivan Trevino”. Catching Shadows, Flow, Strive to Be Happy, WildLings, Space Junk, and Make a Joyful Noise, were all compositions by the world-renown composer, which were performed by SIU Edwardsville Percussion.

In May 2022, the Missouri-Illinois Musical Arts Consortium and partner Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Percussion Studio, received a generous Meridian Society Grant to bring out Ivan Trevino (October 2022). The reception and concert were also funded by the SIUe Foundation, additionally supported by the Department of Music. It was an exceptional evening of music.

Mr. Trevino is currently on the percussion faculty at the University of Texas at Austin.
